Shieldaig Photographic Adventures

An exciting new opportunity for the adventure and nature photographer. Join Shieldaig Outdoor Adventures and Eddie Harrison Photography for a photographic journey through Torridon and the Fisherfield mountains. Eddie is as salty as they come, with over ten years of kayak guiding experience on the sea around the world. Eddie also works in others areas of outdoor instruction, specialising in hill walking and anything to do with water.

As a photographer, Eddie focuses on photographing the wildlife and landscapes that make Scotland so spectacular. Eddie’s passion for photography takes him anywhere from remote beaches to mountain tops in all seasons and weather conditions.

On your photographic adventure you can expect to discover and learn about all aspects of journeying in the Scottish wilds as a photographer. This could be anything from how to pack for a multi-day photography expedition, how to navigate in the mountains, searching for the best shooting locations or just how to keep your equipment dry.

The beauty of this kind of adventure is that it’s entirely customisable! Whether you want to focus on photographing Red Deer, the macro flora of the Scottish mountain-scape, the grand Torridon and Fisherfield landscapes at sunrise and sunset or people in the landscape, we can facilitate that. Don’t fancy carrying all that equipment? We have the option to provide a “camera caddy” to carry whatever you don’t want to! Be that 600mm prime lens, or just your sleeping bag. This option leaves you open to be as creative as possible by being free from the fatigue that comes with carrying heavy equipment.

Example itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Shieldaig and start your adventure

Get to know your guide(s), recover from your journey and an opportunity to see our planned route

Pack our bags, load up our boats and other equipment and depart on our adventure.

Canoe down the beautiful Loch Maree

There is an opportunity to stop off at Isle Maree on the loch, the sight of an ancient grave yard with a wealth of nature and photographic opportunities.

Hopefully we will have the wind on our backs, giving us the opportunity to hoist the sails and cruise down the loch with ease.

We will land up and establish our first wild camp site.

The north shore of Loch Maree is wild and remote. We will be undisturbed and free to explore the shore line looking for compositions, and working the westerly sunsets that bless the area.

While exploring and photographing our temporary home, we will cook dinner, have a camp fire on the shore and get to know each other.

Day 2: Out in the wild

Wake up in time for sunrise, if you wish, or sleep in and enjoy the peace and quiet of a Highland morning.

Breakfast, coffee and then take some time to work on compositions, find new subjects, or enjoy the nature of the Scottish Highlands.

After this we will pack up and begin our ascent of Slioch, a munro reaching up to the height of 980 metres. Here we will make our second camp up high next to a beautiful lochan, ready for sunset.

Slioch is often photographed from the glen, but we will try and find new and unique compositions that no one else will find. Up this high there is the possibility to photograph wild goats and other upland wildlife. If the weather permits, this is an excellent opportunity to practice your night scape photography.

Camping up high on a mountain is an excellent place to watch the world go by.

Day 3: Return and goodbyes

We will wake up for sunrise, have our final camp breakfast and spend the morning photographing the beautiful location we find ourself in.

Later we will pack up and begin our walk back down the mountain. On reaching our end point, we will be transported back to Shieldaig, where will say our goodbyes and begin our journeys home.
